This permits the user to maintain a constant and consistent force throughout the various strength levels in the working muscles. AEROBIC CONDITIONING Aerobic exercise means "in the presence of oxygen." It is an activity for which the body is able to supply adequate oxygen to sustain performance for long periods of time, usually 20-60 minutes. Aerobic exercise improves the cardiorespiratory system's ability to transport and utilize oxygen throughout the body. Benefits of Aerobic Conditioning: >> Improve the cardiorespiratory system, which provides the blood and heart with fresh oxygen and nutrients. >> Prevents diseases associated with too little activity. >> Builds strength and muscular endurance. >> Helps maintain body weight-- weight loss of fat rather than muscle tissue. >> Increases good cholesterol and decreases total blood cholesterol and bad cholesterol. >> Decreases blood pressure if high (prevents hypertension) and decreases resting heart rate. FREE WEIGHTS (Isotonic Exercise) Free weights are used to assist in a type of muscle contraction in which the muscle changes length, either shortening or lengthening. Free weights include barbells, dumbbells, and homemade weights. The objective of isotonic exercise is to place the muscle at stretch to ensure maximum innervation to the muscle fibers.
